Gate Latch
If you don't have someone to hold it for
you, keeping a fence gate open while you drive through can be a matter of
timing. Gravity or a gust of wind can slam the gate into the side of your
vehicle just as you are going through the entrance. J. Harold Gallimore of
Thomasville, N.C., has a simple idea for keeping a gate open and eliminating
wind sprints from his gate to his pickup. He sank a 3-foot-long, 1-inch pipe
into concrete and attached a flat metal hook with a spring. When he swings the
gate open, the hook and spring hold it securely so he can stroll back to his
truck. He added a reflector to the post for safety.
