A Simple Life: The Appeal of Rural Living

The Progressive Farmer's list of Best Places To Live in Rural America is unique—the first of its kind. That had already been recognized by media outlets as diverse as CNN, Money magazine's web site and America Online. But a feature on the list airing on America's #1 morning show topped it all. "We've tapped into something that makes people who already live in these places feel great about their lifestyle. That's what we want to do—celebrate these places and the people who live there," says senior editor Jamie Cole. That lifestyle—arming, ranching, living in the country—is what sets apart our top ten counties and makes them special. "People who live and work the land in these places have a lot to be proud of," says Cole.

The Progressive Farmer's editorial staff is working right now to produce next year's top ten, traveling all over the country and doing all manner of research. Most importantly, they're visiting with people who live in the potential top ten counties. "They tell the story and we share it," says Cole.

Next year's list will be released February 1, 2008.
