Nobody knows better the value of a farm upbringing than someone who experienced it and is now passing it on. That's a common occurrence in this northwestern Tennessee county.
Paul Albright's family is the fifth generation of Albrights to live and farm here, and for Paul it's the only way of life he has ever known or wanted. "When I graduated from high school here, the decision for me to go to college was made as all decisions on the farm are madenot by me, but by us all," he says. "My earning an ag degree just made sense." Now he is raising his family on the same land.
The Albrights (below) and other farm families in the county led the charge that landed Obion County at No. 1 in our Reader's Choice poll last year, and no wonderthere's a lot to be proud of here. It's the state's top corn producer, a fact celebrated each year at the Cornfest (www.obioncountycornfest.com). The kids here have great schools and programs, and Reelfoot Lakea wildlife and fishing havenkeeps them outdoors.
Besides all that, Union Citythe county seatwill soon be home to the $100-million Discovery Park of America, a world-class museum highlighting what makes the area special, from the lake to regional history to alternative energy and wildlife.
