Dan has been writing for more than two decadesmost with Progressive Farmer. He has been honored with numerous writing awards, including two Oscars in Agriculture and Writer of the Year, a distinction given by the American Agricultural Editor's Association.
After high school, Dan spent three years in the Army. He later earned a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, IL. Before Progressive Farmer, he worked as a police, fire, courts and government writer for the Dixon (IL) Evening News. Later at the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Gazette, he helped organize and wrote for the Iowa Farmer Today, a weekly farm newspaper.
Dan is married and living in Chelsea, AL with three children, teenage sons Aaron and Alex, and daughter, Sydney.
