Build Stronger Fence Corners: The Right Posts, The Right Depth

Corner posts should be 5 to 6 inches in diameter and 8 feet long. For each corner you will need three posts—one for the corner and two for the brace posts located at each turn.

To determine the depth to sink a corner post, measure the height of your fencing wire and add 6 inches. For a 4-foot fence (48 inches), this would mean the corner post would be 54 inches above the ground. Dig the hole for an 8-foot post 42 inches deep (the remaining length of an 8-foot post). The hole also should be wider than your post by 4 to 5 inches.
